About a week ago I heard in my school that a WV lawmaker wants to ban the line of dolls this world has come to know as Barbie. Now of course my reaction to this was pretty much along the lines of, What a jackass, what a ridiculous thought. Shouldn't this swine have better things to be involved in and not Barbie Dolls?
The lawmakers position on the doll was that it places too much emphasis on physical beauty. It makes a child want to "look" exactly like that, and what that is is apparently a flirtacious, little tease, young adult. He also said another reason he wanted this legislation to go through was, once again, "the doll gives too much emphasis on if your beautiful, you don't have to be smart". This man's name is Jeff Eldridge.
Ok. First and foremost let's get this straight Jeff. The "Item" that your complaining about is a TOY; that's all that it is, a child play thing. This doll does NOT place all that emphasis on children because, once again, It is a toy; its there for child entertainment not to try to make little girls, hopefully not boys, into slutty "playboyish" type figures. I dont think thats what the makers of the doll had in mind when they created Ms. Barbie. Also I heard other people on this news show the other day (channel 27, Headline News, to be exact) and they were bitching about for Barbie's 50th anniversary on the doll they placed a pink, sparkley looking butterfly tattoo about the size of a pinhead and they were moaning and wailing about that. They were saying that the tattoo on the doll, once again, placed too much emphasis on adulthood, blah, blah, blah. Holy Hell. The doll is 50. Let her finally get a tattoo for christ's sake. Although in reality the makers thought it would be a "cute" addition to the doll and that is all.
But back to you Jeff. The ones who are placing too much emphasis on the doll is you. You are the ones, because the doll can't possibly do it. It is an Inanimate Object Jeff. It's not real. You people are the ones who think this doll gives off all of these things, not the kids. The kids are just out to play with the doll . Jeff you said the doll "gives too much emphasis on if your beautiful, you don't have to be smart". Who said that? You did Jeff, you said that not the damn doll. Kids are going to play, learn, then grow up, thats life, get used to it. Your all saying "the dolls are too dirty and let the kids be kids". Well you taking away their toys are really letting them be kids. A child plays with the doll. A child gets entertainment from the doll. A child does not sit around with Barbies, etc, talking to them about getting implants on their breasts, sexual encounters and partying. The adults think that. The adults think that and therefor they think that's what the doll is resembling, implying, and trying to emphasize.
So Jeff (and anyone else who is complaining), you need to quit complaining about dolls and what not and get to work on something of importance, examples: economy, health care, the state of WV and it's roads, economy, etc, etc, etc... Get a Life Mr.Eldridge.
